How can I get traffic directed to my New Recipe Website Blog?

Hello,
I have just created a website (encouraged by my friends & family) that tells a bit about my experience with Chicken Recipes. Its been up for almost a week now and have had very little traffic to it. Am I doing something wrong? does it look bad? Its a blog mostly with a few adsense.

If you’d open a new page (blog or whatever page) no one will know that page exists and no one will be able to find it.
In order to have people visit your site, you’d have to “advertise” it. E-mail the link of the site to your friends, post it on your facebook/twitter/whatever page etc.
This is creating limited traffic to your page though, since only your friends will find and visit your page. In order to reacht the world wide web, you’d have to make sure search engines like google/yahoo/etc will be able to find your site. To acchieve that, you’ll need two things: time (it takes time for search engines to find you) and as many links to your site as possible.
For example NASA has a lot of links to their site, and therefore it is considered important. To increase the importance of your blog, you’d have to go to relevant forums and leave comments with a link to your blog.
Of course there are other methods to increase the “importance” of your blog, but this is the easiest and cheapest way.
And remember: don’t expect thousands of visitors a day for the next six months….it takes time….
